Rajasthan is a very beautiful state of India and is renowned for its historical monuments, rich culture and heritage, and tales of the royals. Rajasthan is a popular tourist destination, but there are some places which will send chills down your spine. Yes, you heard it right! Some places in Rajasthan are haunted and people have witnessed paranormal activities there So, here goes the list!

1. BHANGARH FORT:


Built by Man Singh I, Bhangarh Fort was once the brilliance of architecture. Now, the Fort is said to be haunted by several spirits. The Archaeological Survey of India doesn’t permit tourists to enter the premises after the sunset. It is the most haunted place in India!

  • The Folklore: The wizard, who was adroit in black magic, fell in love with the princess. One day, he swapped her perfume with a black magic potion in order to attract her to him. But somehow, the princess got to know about his evil plot. So, she poured the potion on a large rock and it started flying in the direction of wizard. The rock rolled down the hill and crushed him. Before taking his last breath, he cursed that Bhangarh would be destroyed.
  • Creepy Incident: Several paranormal activities like a woman crying for help, ghost of the tantric shouting, and the clinking sound of the bangles are experienced by the people.

2. BRIJRAJ BHAWAN PALACE:


The Brijraj Bhawan Palace, a heritage hotel in Kota, was once the British Residency and home to Major Charles Burton. It lies on the bank of river Chambal.

  • The Folklore: Indian sepoys killed Major Charles Burton during the revolution of 1857. The soldiers hooked him with his 2 sons in one of the upper rooms and looted the palace. After that, the soldiers killed the Major and his sons. Although their bodies were buried by the British in the Kota cemetery, the Palace is said to be occupied by the ghost of Major Charles Burton.
  • Creepy Incident: A number of guards have witnessed a man’s voice speaking in English and ordering them not to smoke or fall asleep. The ghost even slapped them when they fell asleep on the duty. 

3.  MEHANDIPUR BALAJI TEMPLE:


Located in the Dausa district of Rajasthan, Mehandipur Balaji Temple is the only temple in India where live exorcisms still take place. The uncanny ambiance of the temple is enough to scare even the bravest person in the day light.

The temple has some rules that you should follow if you want to stay safe. You should not take home any Prasad when you leave the temple. Since the people in the temple are believed to be possessed, touching them is prohibited.

4. KULDHARA VILLAGE:


Kuldhara is an abandoned village located 18 kilometers from Jaisalmer. The mud houses with no roofs and ruined walls reflect the unfortunate past.

  • The Folklore : The village was occupied by the Paliwal Brahmins. The villagers used to pay the taxes imposed by Salim Singh, the minister of the state. Salim Singh fell in love with the beautiful daughter of the Chief and threatened the villagers that if they refuse his proposal to marry her, he would impose exaggerated taxes on them. Instead of accepting the proposal, the Chief along with 84 adjacent villages migrated to some other place. No one knew where they went. This is still a mystery!
  • Creepy Incident : The paranormal society of New Delhi checked this place and they recorded voiced of the dead villagers. There were footprints of the children on the mud and scratches on the car.

5. SUDHABAY (Near Pushkar):


As a matter of fact, Sudhabay is not a haunting place in true sense, but the ambiance of this place is undoubtedly spine-tingling. The strange rituals of exorcism are performed during the “Ghost Fair”, which is conducted every year. People come here to divest themselves of the evil spirits. It is believed that a dip in the holy water of the well drives away the evil spirits.

6. KIRADU TEMPLE:


Kiradu Temple is located 30 kms from Barmer and is known for its amazing Solanki architecture. This temple is an accumulation of five temples and it is said that anyone who dares to stay overnight here turns into stone.

  • The Folklore : As per legends, Kiradu was deserted due to a sage’s curse. The sage instructed his disciple to take care of the people of Kiradu, but no one except a potter’s wife fulfilled the sage’s wish. So, the sage cursed the town but told the potter’s wife to leave beforehand, without turning back. She turned back to take one last look at her hometown and was immediately converted to stone.

7. RANA KUMBHA PALACE, CHITTORGARH:


Built inside the Chittorgarh Fort, Rana Kumbha Palace exemplifies the Rajputana architecture. Though it holds the same charm even after so many years of construction, the crumbling walls and staircases, windows looking from dark chambers, and so many doorways may scare you.

  • The Folklore: As per the legends, Maharani Padmini committed the Jauhar (self-immolation) along with 700 female followers when the Sultan of Delhi. Alauddin Khilji, attacked the palace and captured Maharana Kumbha.
  • Creepy Incident: A year back, a group of college friends dared to spend one night at the palace to witness the ghostly activities. As they were passing by the dark chambers, one of the friends heard a voice of female asking for help. As he turned around, he got shocked and traumatized seeing a lady with burnt face wearing the royal attire.

8. JAGATPURA:


Jagatpura is a residential place in Rajasthan where people actually reside with the spirits.

  • The Folklore : The king of Jagatpura was arrogant and greedy. Many villagers died of starvation and cursed him while taking their last breath. It is believed that the souls of those villagers ask for help from the passersby.
  • Creepy Incident : The residents of the area have seen witches in white dress and grey hair hanging loose over the face, walking around the roads of Jagatpura. It is a horrible experience to roam here after night.

9. NAHARGARH FORT:


Nahargarh Fort is an architectural gem lying on the hilltop of the Aravalli. The fort was a retreat palace for Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and has witnessed a number of battles.

  • The Folklore: The fort was cursed by the spirit of a Rathore Prince, Nahar Singh Bishnoi. Maharaja planned to build a fort on this property, which once belonged to Nahar Singh. But, the prince’s spirit was not happy with the decision. However, the construction started. The part of the fort that was constructed in the morning was found completely smashed the next day.
  • Creepy Incident: Once an organization took up the contract to restore the Nahargarh Fort. Soon the organization’s owner was found dead at his home under mysterious conditions.
